Adult Depression Treatment Studies

Struggling with depression? Thinking about antidepressants?

Researchers at McLean are seeking volunteers to participate in a research study to understand how certain biomarkers may predict treatment response. This study includes 9 sessions across the span of 10 weeks for which you will receive up to $710 and a full course of an antidepressant medication.

We are seeking right-handed individuals, 18-64 years old, who are currently experiencing depression. During the study, you will be interviewed by a clinician, meet with study physicians, have an MRI exam, have an EEG exam, have an ECG exam, provide blood, play some computer games, and fill out questionnaires.

If you are interested in participating, please complete our online survey: depressiontreatmentstudy.org

If you would rather speak on the phone, please send your phone number and some good times to reach you to neurolab@mclean.harvard.edu. Thanks!

Research on New Potential Treatment for Depression: Neurofeedback

Are you feeling depressed, down, and experiencing a loss of pleasure in activities you normally would enjoy? Adults ages 22 to 65 may be eligible to participate in research on the effect of neurofeedback on depression.

Neurofeedback uses real-time displays of brain activity to train you on how to control activity in specific regions of your brain. The study requires ~21 visits (some remote and some in-person) and takes about 5 months and participants can earn up to $465.

If interested, please complete the following survey: depressiontreatmentstudy.org, or contact Shiba at 617-855-4421 or via email at sesfand@mclean.harvard.edu

Ketamine Treatment for Depression

Are you seeking ketamine treatment for chronic depression? You might be eligible for a research study in collaboration with ketamine treatment services, here at McLean Hospital!

Researchers in McLean’s Center for Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Research (CDASR) are exploring changes in the electrical activity of the brain to learn more about how people can benefit from ketamine treatment.

If you, too, would like to help make a positive impact on the mental health community, in addition to earning up to $325 and having your first ketamine treatment covered in the process, contact Jason Scott (jscott@mclean.harvard.edu) to learn more. Let’s make meaningful change, together!

Teen & Family Research

Teen Headspace study

Researchers at McLean Hospital are investigating how teens who are feeling stressed might benefit from learning mindfulness techniques for daily life. By participating, your child can help us better understand how mindfulness can help counteract rumination (repetitive negative thinking) in teens. If you have a child who is between the ages of 13 and 18 who has no prior mindfulness experience, then you and your child may qualify to participate in this research study. You child can earn up to $285 for participating.

For more information, please contact Anna at (617) 855-4239 or via email at aotierney@mclean.harvard.edu.

Teen Mood study

Researchers at McLean Hospital are investigating factors that put young individuals at risk for developing depression. By participating, you and your child can help us better understand, prevent, and treat adolescent depression. If you have a child between the ages of 12 and 18 who is feeling good – or who experiences less pleasure or interest in the things they used to enjoy – you and your child may qualify to participate in this research study. Your child can earn up to $327.20 for participating.

For more information, please contact Nigel at (617) 855-4246 or via email at njaffe@mclean.harvard.edu.

Depression Family History study

Researchers at McLean Hospital are studying factors, such as family history, that may put young individuals at risk for developing depression. By participating, you and your child can help us better understand, prevent, and treat adolescent depression. If you have a child who is between the ages of 12 and 15 – and if you, or their other biological parent, has experienced depression – then you and your child may qualify to participate in this research study. You child can earn up to $337 for participating.

Emotions and the Teen Brain

Researchers at McLean Hospital are investigating factors that make some teens better able to cope with stressful experiences and what makes some teens more vulnerable to experiencing depression. By participating, you and your child can help them better understand, prevent, and treat adolescent depression. We are recruiting female teens between the ages of 14-18 who are currently feeling depressed or down as well as female teens who are not feeling depressed/down. Your teen can earn up to $299 and receive a picture of her brain. Teens will answer questions about their thoughts and feelings. Teens will also undergo an fMRI brain scan. Parent permission is required for teens under 18.

If you are interested, fill out our Teen Brain Survey, or call us at (617) 855-4173, or send email to teenbrain@mclean.harvard.edu.
