About the Center for Depression, Anxiety and Stress Research

Depression, anxiety and related disorders are major public health problems. In the United States, one out of every five people will develop depression or an anxiety disorder in his or her lifetime. Until recently, our understanding of the mechanisms implicated in depression and anxiety was limited. However, breakthroughs in genetics, neuroscience, and cognitive science have provided us with unprecedented access to the architecture of the human mind. These new insights are revolutionizing our understanding of depression and anxiety.

In July 2010, McLean Hospital established the Center for Depression, Anxiety and Stress Research (CDASR) to fundamentally improve our understanding of these debilitating disorders. Using an interdisciplinary approach, CDASR investigators are working to identify the biological, environmental, and psychological factors that contribute to depression and anxiety. The goal of our research is to make scientific discoveries that translate into improved prevention and treatment of mental illness.
